Are you interested in tracing your family's history?  Are you working on your genealogy and want to meet up with others who are working on their family trees?  Then join us at the Thayer Public Library's Genealogy Club.  All are welcome from novice to expert. Come learn about the resources that the library has to offer. We can compare notes and stories as well as help each other with research.

Digitization, Digital Commonwealth, and the Internet Archive

Joel DeMelo, Statewide Digitization Assistant &     Project Archivist at the Boston Public Library, will   join us over Zoom to introduce us to the Statewide Digitization Program with a focus on the Internet    Archive, including useful tricks to get the most out of this valuable resource.

The Internet Archive began digitizing books in 2005 and today scans 4,400 books per day in 20 locations around the world. Books published in or prior to 1929 are available for download.  The collection includes family genealogies, local history titles, directories, newspapers, pamphlets, yearbooks, maps, and more.

This is a hybrid event, in person in Logan Auditorium, or online on Zoom. If you wish to attend virtually, you must register to receive the Zoom link.

Joel DeMelo is the Statewide Digitization Assistant & Project Archivist at the Boston Public Library. Joel graduated from UMass Boston and Simmons University’s School of Library and Information Sciences, and got started working in cultural heritage preservation with the Massachusetts Hip Hop Archive.
